Dear Dalton Families,
Thank you all for your participation in yesterday’s Sports Day. It was a wonderful event that brought the whole community together.
I’d like to share words from Dusty May, Head Coach of the University of Michigan basketball team, because they are inspiring and resonate with our principles at DSHK.
1.Compete from a Place of Joy
When you compete today- remember to enjoy yourself. Enjoy the togetherness. Enjoy the time with your friends, classmates, teachers, and parents.
2.Play Free
One of the core values of the Dalton Plan is freedom. Play hard without worry- and to the adults- embrace your inner child.
3.Build April Habits
Sports teach us the importance of hard work. Today we will compete, but it’s the little things you do every day BEFORE the competition that make the difference.
4.Value the Invisible Plays
The best teams value the moves that don’t get the glory, like the player who passes the ball before the player who assists the goal. Each of us plays a role and each of us is valued.
5.Cultivate a Growth Mindset
Passion and Process over perfection. Every mistake you make is an opportunity learn and get better!
Finally, thank you to Kahei, Ryan, and Austin for leading the way in preparing today’s event. They made many “invisible plays” to make this the best sports day, yet. I hope you all enjoyed the day as much as I did.
