DSHK is embarking on an exciting journey to create its own version of the Changemaker curriculum with the invaluable guidance of the Think Learning Studio, which originated at the Think Global School (recently named to the Spear’s Top 100 index). By weaving together five key principles and building upon the foundation and ethos of our school, DSHK is poised to empower its students as changemakers in a rapidly evolving world.
- Educator-Guided Curriculum:
At the heart of DSHK’s curriculum lies a robust, educator-guided framework that integrates project-based and core-subject learning. By combining these approaches, students are encouraged to explore and apply knowledge in meaningful ways, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills. The curriculum is designed to provide a solid foundation across core subjects while allowing flexibility for interdisciplinary connections, promoting a holistic understanding of the world. - Personal Projects and Electives:
DSHK recognizes the importance of facilitating student agency and personal growth. To achieve this, the curriculum incorporates opportunities for students to pursue personal projects and electives aligned with their interests and passions. This empowers students to take ownership of their learning, fostering independence, self-motivation, and a sense of purpose. By encouraging exploration and self-discovery, Dalton aims to nurture well-rounded individuals with a deep sense of personal fulfillment. - Advisory and Well-Being:
DSHK understands the significance of holistic well-being in the educational journey. The curriculum places a strong emphasis on advisory and well-being programs, providing students with the necessary support and guidance to navigate their academic and personal lives. By fostering positive relationships, promoting emotional intelligence, and prioritizing well-being, Dalton creates a nurturing environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. - Service Learning:
DSHK believes in the power of service learning to cultivate empathy, compassion, and civic responsibility. The curriculum integrates service learning opportunities, enabling students to engage with their local and global communities. Through meaningful service projects, students develop a deep understanding of social issues, cultural diversity, and the importance of making a positive impact. - Capstone:
This culminating project allows students to apply their knowledge, skills, and values to address a complex real-world challenge. The Capstone fosters critical thinking, collaboration, and innovation, preparing students for the demands of higher education and beyond. It serves as a testament to their growth, accomplishments, and readiness to tackle the challenges of the future.
Promoting Chinese Culture and Place-Based Immersion:
In designing DSHK’s version of the Changemaker curriculum, it is essential that we continue to promote Chinese culture and provide meaningful place-based immersion opportunities. By integrating Chinese traditions, language, history, and arts, students develop a deep appreciation for the richness and diversity of Chinese heritage. Additionally, place-based immersion experiences allow students to engage directly with the local community, fostering cultural exchange, language proficiency, and a global mindset.
DSHK’s partnership with the Think Learning Studio aims to develop a transformative educational experience that provides the conditions that enable each child to find their passion and strengths and equip them with the skills needed to thrive well beyond university.
