Chinese Culture
and Global Citizenship

At DSHK, our commitment to fostering Chinese culture is a fundamental part of our mission, as we recognize its profound importance in our students’ current and future lives. Our Traditional Chinese Values and Global Competence Framework is designed to provide character education that instills strong core values and global competence, while nurturing respect and understanding of both local and global cultures.

Chinese Culture

We proudly promote Chinese culture by explicitly teaching and celebrating the Confucian values of benevolence, propriety, virtue, wisdom, and trustworthiness. These values are woven into our educational framework, guiding students to lead with integrity and principles. Our motto, “I am not led, I lead,” reflects our dedication to cultivating leaders who are deeply rooted in these ancient values. At each stage of their development, students engage with meaningful contexts that deepen their understanding of these principles, ensuring they are prepared to lead with wisdom and virtue in a global society.

Global Citizenship and Character Competence

Our framework for global citizenship is built on character competencies, or social-emotional learning (SEL) skills, which are essential for students’ overall well-being and success in school and life. Rooted in the CASEL framework, we focus on developing self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. These competencies equip students with the ability to recognize and manage emotions, develop empathy, build positive relationships, and make responsible choices. By applying these competencies to global issues and perspectives, we cultivate students who are not only grounded in Chinese cultural values but also prepared to act as responsible, empathetic citizens of the world.
