Co-Curricular Experiences

Experiential Learning

DSHK believes education is for life. Therefore, education must be immersed in real world contexts. Field trips and special events at school are key experiences that help students connect their studies to the world around them. Field trips are particularly special at DSHK because they are related to units of inquiry. Thus, they vary from year-to-year based on the interests and studies of each cohort.

  • Sample Trips
  • Helicopter Pad
  • Engineering Room
  • Volvo Ocean Race Village
  • Service Trips (eg. Kindness Walk, Food pantries, etc)
  • Wetlands Park
  • Museums (Science, Art, History, etc)
  • Concerts

X-TIME

X-Time is a special part of the student experience at DSHK. Our mission states that “We are confident, creative and adaptable, embrace differences, change and challenges. We are happily engaged, self-motivated, resilient and independent. X-Time  helps us achieve this mission and supports students’ overall well-being by providing them with opportunities to pursue areas of passion and interest.

Each semester students and teachers brainstorm possible X-Time choices.  Then students commit to 2 X-Time choices over the course of the semester. Some examples of X-Time classes include:

  • Art and Design
  • Coding
  • Cooking
  • Gardening
  • Origami
  • Robotics
  • Science Experiments
  • Yoga

DSHK Overview

“The Dalton Plan is not a curriculum, it is a scheme of educational reorganization which reconciles the twin activities of teaching and learning. When intelligently applied it creates conditions which enable the teacher to teach and the learner to learn.”
