Dalton’s Literary Bliss: A Week of Celebrating Reading

“There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island.” ― Walt Disney

This week, Dalton celebrated a captivating week dedicated to the joy of reading. Students, teachers, and staff immersed themselves in engaging activities and inspiring events, fostering a profound love for literature.

Highlights included an author and illustrator visit by  Daniela Alam and Chihiro Shizumi. Their storytelling and insights ignited imaginations, inspiring our young authors and artists.

To sustain the reading enthusiasm, we launched the Reading Minutes Extravaganza. Our aim is to collectively achieve 224,000 reading minutes within three weeks, fostering good reading habits and friendly competition. If we reach our goal, we will have a school-wide celebration on the last day of the school year.

The Door Decorating Competition transformed classrooms into imaginative displays of beloved books. The winning class, soon to be announced, will enjoy a well-deserved party.

A book exchange encouraged students to share stories and discover new authors. Reading buddies, both stuffed toys and peers, created a sense of community beyond the classroom.

Students embraced reading during their free time, fostering a lifelong love for books and critical thinking.

Students also had the joy of dining in a carefully curated cafeteria inspired by the many different genres we can explore.

Dalton’s Literacy Week showcased the power of words and storytelling, establishing a strong reading culture. We continue to nurture our students’ love for reading and encourage them to embark on exciting literary adventures.  We hope that you also feel inspired to continue to build a reading culture in your own homes. Remember, reading to your kids awakens their curiosity, imagination and critical thinking skills. Reading also inspires children, comforts them, makes children better communicators, helps teach vocabulary and makes them better writers, and opens up kids’ worlds to new things and places! It also keeps them quiet and away from the screen!
